I spent a lot of time at Poe Homes with Thiru this week.
This is a community that has gone without water for nearly two weeks. They were ignored by everyone and then misled by City Hall. They were told everything was under control when it wasn’t; they were told they had water when they didn’t; they were told the City would fix things when it hasn’t.
Lots of politicians stopped by, took a photo, and left. Thiru is anything but another politician. He spent the day listening to residents, visiting their homes, playing basketball, and thanking volunteers who brought a free shower truck to Poe Homes without any support from the City.
On Saturday, the Department of Public Works said water had been returned to residents. This was a mistake or a lie. Every home we visited had trickling water from the faucet and shower; every resident had gallon jugs next to their bathrooms just to flush the toilet.
Our neighbors deserve better than hearings, half-truths & trickling water. They deserve transparency, urgency, and around-the-clock effort. They’re not getting it.
Here was City Hall’s word on Saturday—here’s the sad reality from Sunday.
